Especially Stegner and Proulx; I can't be more enthusiastic. I did not like Irvin Welsh, Trainspotting at all and refused to see the movie.

Film: Lone Star (John Sayles!); Fly Away Home (the goose movie; you must see it); Fargo (Coen brothers, totally brilliant movie); Spitfire Grill (charming flick). Didn't get it: The Usual Suspects . A totally convoluted and incomprehensible plot with lots of tricks does not equal Oscar material in my book.

TV: X-Files. Music: Check out all the cool 'best of' collections coming out now for the retro new wave. All these bands that you can only remember having one song, like Gary Numan (cars) or Kajagoogoo (too shy) and now there’s like a whole disc with 15 songs and 2 previously unreleased tracks. Like there isn’t a reason they weren’t released?

Whose side are you on in the Van Halen - David Lee Roth debacle?

Edward’s, but I have to say that after that whole event it is very clear that I am not the only person on the planet who has been dreaming about a VH reunion and now I think that’s totally ruined. So unless there comes a day when Edward and company desperately need to pay the rent (as if) I doubt we’re ever going to see a VH reunion. boo-hoo.

And whatever happened to that novel you were writing?

People, remember when I started the novel I was completely destitute and living alone and had no friends. Fortunately, none of the above circumstances still exists. In fact, I’m super busy and between spending 1996 planning and being in a wedding and moving in with Bob, I’m lucky if I get a couple hours a week to even look at it. So just be patient. I'll finish it one of these days.
