PAM REVIEWS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Try: William Gibson, Virtual Light; James Lee Burke (any); All The Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy; Libby Gelman-Waxner If You Ask Me (book and column in Premiere magazine); and Generation Ecch! by J. Cohen & M. Krugman. Movies: True Romance, The Last Seduction, Bullets Over Broadway, Hoop Dreams, Olivier Olivier, The Underneath and Faraway So Close. TV: The X-Files. Music: go back to those great big-hair, guitar god days. Whatever happened to guitar gods? Most of these alterna-crap bands are too busy swinging their hair (or polishing their scalps) and getting tattoos to really master their craft. Big hair metal will be making a comeback I know it -- I mean, at least big-hair didn't try to pretend that they weren't total poseurs out to make some bucks and bag some chicks. I'm not going to rank on Hootie because that's too easy a target (not to suggest that Hootie's alterna-crap) but I tell you Nelson could kick Hootie's ass across the Fabulous Forum parking lot. Also -- I saw Edward for the first time this year (that would be, Van Halen) and there is really no question that Edward is THE MAN. Really, he's a THE guitar god of this lifetime and the next.
PAM FAQ AND COMMENTS
1. Who do you
like better? David Lee Roth or Sammy Van Hagar?
I like whatever makes Edward happy.
2. What's going
on with your novel?
I'm still writing it. I expect to finish it soon.
3. How many
of these things do you send out?
I answered this last year and said I was making 100 -- but it turns out that
100 is too many and I'm back to about 80. I still have newsletters from last
year so if you'd like one, just ask.
4. I like your
newsletter but I don't understand it.
You are not alone. Many people tell me this.
5. Did you really
meet your boyfriend in an AOL Chatroom?
No, just kidding. My cousin introduced us -- so see, family introductions really
can work. And he really is a great guy and things are pretty serious and you'll
have to watch this spot next year for any developments.
Hope you all have a wonderful holidays and a gonzo new year.
