I Thought It Would Be Funnier

My book reading is hitting an all time low meaning I'm hardly reading any books -- I'm not sure how I'm going to remedy this. I reread The Great Gatsby and Catcher in the Rye, which were both fabulous and I FINALLY after having it all these years, read Nine Stories (also Salinger, if you're wondering) which got me on a whole Salinger thing so I read Franny and Zooey (not mandatory) and a biography, and it turns out the guy is pretty nutty which was a big let down. Highly recommended: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, by Michael Chabon and The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. Two of the best books I've read in a long time. I also loved The Red Tent, Anita Diamant, and Wild Life by Molly Gloss.

TV: Still watching: Friends, Ebert & Roeper, Buffy and Simpsons (do you ever wonder what the writers of that show are throwing away?). And I am the last person on the planet to discover The Sopranos? This happened Aug 24, 2002 -- barely 3 weeks before season #4 started. I went on a full-on binge and watched the first three seasons (39 episodes) in 24 days and loved every minute of it. It was hard to adjust to only 1 hour a week for season #4.

MORE HIGHLIGHTS

Erin running with the Olympic Torch in San Francisco in January, Concrete Blonde, Paul Westerberg and Bob Mould my three 80's godhead artists and I saw them all in the first four months of the year. That alone would have made life worth living in 2002. But I also saw Nickelcreek probably in the greatest show I have seen in my life and I'm not even a diehard fan -- these kids are so confident and heart-full and talented. We saw Lynda Barry at Powell's. She is so cool and funny and talented and a great story teller. The other big "discovery" was a Newfoundland band: Great Big Sea that I fell in love with about 30 seconds into the first song I ever heard them play. We got to see them too at the Aladdin Theater. Also super major big highlight was World Cup Soccer which I was completely obsessed with for the month of June. When we were in Wisconsin I got up at 1:30am to watch the U.S. play Mexico. I didn't keep track but during the first round I was watching at least 4 hours of soccer a day. It was great. It's all great.

Hope you too. Happy Holidaze everyone.

Love you, Pamela
