CAMP KIMTU
I did one outdoor hippie music fest this summer, the first annual Mountain Music Festival in Willow Creek, which was fantastic except for the part where it was 107 degrees from about 10am until 9pm. I feel sorry for all the groups that played during the day because the attendees all crammed around the 4 shade trees about 100 yards from the stage holding ice to our foreheads. Joe got there early and scored us the best campsite in the place, which of course was really supposed to be for the performers. Before the security guy (Drew) could even ask us to move, Joe and Bob shook his hand and promised to keep interlopers out of the performers camping area and agreed to happily share our campground with any bands that needed a place to camp.
But even funnier was this one band, Groundnation, they played some kind of reggae/rastafarian music (I don't know the genre breakdown of hippie music) and we totally made fun of the lead singer because he had this phony Jamaican accent fading in and out and he looked like he grew up in Woodland Hills. These guys show up at the campground in the middle of the night and Joe and Bob very officially tell them that camping is for performers only and Valley Boy says he IS a performer and he is really grateful for our light so he can um, unroll his sleeping bag. So, we got to party with the band. (We being Bob and Joe because I was sleeping.)
